Our community garden is designed to demonstrate organic growing methods. The annual re-design of the garden is spearheaded by BOG’s development committee in liaison with regular volunteers. The volunteers organise the tasks (sowing, potting on, weeding, watering, etc) needed to grow the produce.
The garden is a mix of perennial planting (soft fruit, herbs, flowers to attract pollinators, etc) and annual planting of salads and veg. There are outdoor beds and two large polytunnels. Most paths are wheelchair accessible. As well as various sheds to store equipment and make tea (very important!), there’s a compost toilet.
We grow a wide range of vegetables popular with our Farmers Market customers and our volunteers. Each year, we grow a few really unusual crops such as arache, lentils or quinoa (pictured above right).
