Our community garden is designed for demonstrating organic growing methods. The annual re-design of the garden is spearheaded by BOG’s development committee in liaison with regular volunteers. The committee organises the tasks (sowing, potting on, weeding, watering, etc) needed to grow the produce according to the annual design.
The garden is a mix of perennial planting (soft fruit, herbs, flowers to attract pollinators, etc) and annual planting of salads and veg – there are outdoor beds and two large polytunnels. As well as various sheds to store equipment and make tea (very important!), there’s a compost toilet.
We grow a wide range of vegetables popular with our Farmers Market customers and our volunteers. Each year, we grow a few really unusual crops such as arache, lentils or quinoa (pictured above right).
